For clarity, Eshnadarragh is in Co. Fermanagh. There are 2 in the county. This one is in Clones parish.

Griffiths Valuation (1862) shows just one Mulligan household in the townland. The farm was tenanted then by Patrick Mulligan, so possibly James’ father. If you can find a death certificate for him, the informant’s details may help.

In case you haven’t seen it, James Mulligan left a will, which is on-line on the PRONI wills site. It mentions sons Pat & John, dau Catherine and wife Mary.

Here’s the abstract: Probate of the Will of James Mulligan late of Esknadarra County Fermanagh Farmer who died 10 July 1894 granted at Armagh to Peter Flynn Farmer

Craicgirl:

I was not able to find any baptismal records for children of James Mulligan and Mary Mulligan. From the civil birth summary below, it appears Patrick Mulligan was the oldest son likely named after his grandfather shown in the Griffiths. This is not conclusive but father of James Mulligan was possibly Patrick.

Civil registration of births started in 1864. Also civil marriage records for Roman Catholics started in 1864.

See first record at link for 1864 civil birth record for Mary Mulligan https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1864/03604/2329299.pdf mother's maiden name also Mulligan.

See fifth record at link for 1867 civil birth record for Patrick Mulligan https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1867/03483/2280283.pdf

There were two civil birth records for a Daniel Mulligan with these parents in 1870 and 1872 so likely the 1870 Daniel died young.

There were two civil birth records for a James Mulligan with these parents in 1875 and 1877 so likely the 1875 James died young

Catherine was born in 1880.
