James Cosgrave and James Mulvany from Carrickadhurish near Longford
On 16th July 1839 James Cosgrave and his uncle, James Mulvany, were tried at the Longford Assizes and convicted of the murder of their grandfather and father, James Mulvany. James Mulvany was executed within two weeks. James Cosgrave, who was only 14 at the time, was transported for life to Norfolk Island.
James Cosgrave partnered with my gg grandmother, an Irish orphan called Margaret Sullivan from Kenmare Workhouse. They were together for 45 years before James Cosgrove (as spelt in Australia) died in 1904. My great grandmother was born around 1859 but no registration of her birth has yet been found. Therefore I don't know for sure if James Cosgrove is my gg grandfather. I would like to know if there are any surviving Cosgrave or Mulvany relatives in Ireland, and if they have had a DNA test. I need to compare my DNA with them without the influence of descendants from my gg grandmother.
However, if DNA sharing is not possible for whatever reason, I would just like to know of any descendants of James in Ireland. His father was supposedly John Cosgrave and his mother Eileen Cosgrave, nee Mulvany (from Ancestry public tree so not sure about this). These spellings were used in the newspaper court report, and James' convict record also used the spelling Cosgrave.
I have tried looking at churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie but am not having much success as apparently Carrickadhurish is no longer a parish name?
Many thanks,
Noni
