James Colquhoun

I was given information about a James Colquhoun that lives in england, who was a veteran and if alive would be in his early to mid 80s. he and possibly his children has information about their ancestor, who turns out to be the brother of James Henry Calhoun. Is it possible to find alive people, or is that not allowed? I just need to know if he has passed or not.
