Jacob Leake in 1827 lived in Freshford Parish, County Kilkenny, Ireland

Hello Hello, I am looking over old queries and have had a search for your ancestor to no avail, it is an unusual name and I can find no baptisms or marriages for a Leake in Kilkenny, the Catholic registers for Freshford do go back to the late 1700s but not the marriages, https://registers.nli.ie/ however I feel the family may have been a different religion and the Church of Ireland (Anglican) records are apparently held locally in Freshford, my database has some but starting in the mid 1800s.See list of C of I registers here:

https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library/list-of-parish-regis… Methodist registers are on the database but nothing returning. John Grenhams site finds none in Kilkenny in Griffiths Valuation, circa 1850s. https://www.johngrenham.com/surnames/ ; Part free but subscriotion for detail, surname seach free.

The Registry of Deeds has a volutary project going and it is not complete but 62 Leake names in it for interest, no Kilkenny ones, https://www.irishdeedsindex.net/index.php ;

Unless there are local records in Freshford it is unlikely we will find more information, if the family were Presbyterian the particular religion may have their own records.

A long shot is he was a tenant and the estate records survive but I do not know who the landlord would have been and not all estate papers survive.

Good Luck

Pat
