Cork, Ireland; d.abt. 1860 Ireland).  They married about 1835 in Leitrim.  The only children I can find are: John (b. 1833 Ireland; d. 1916 USA); Paul (b. abt. 1840 Ireland; d. ?); James (b. 1836; d. ?); Mary (b. 1843; d. ?).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank You, Mary Alice Prejean Hunter

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

What was the religious denomination for Jacob James Nugent and Rose Reynolds? I've searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and so far have found no records for the family. Have you located baptismal records for the children?

Hi Mary-Alice,

James Nugent (1798-1879) and Rose Reynolds (1809-1875) were my great-great-grandparents. They leased farmland near Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland. The death records I have indicate they were both born there. The neighboring lease is recorded as Reynolds as well.

“Jacob James” is possibly a placeholder my uncle made. James and Rose’s son, Peter, was married twice, at the Cathedral in Kansas City, Missouri. (his first wife died young of Consumption.) my uncle found both marriage records and one was in Latin. Iacobus is Latin for James, and the priest spelled it Jacobus.

Look for James Nugent in Griffith’s Valuation, 1847-1864 for the location of the leases. Look for death records for James and Rose in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim.

Good Luck!

Chris
