Irishgenealogy.ie website's advanced options tab

Hello to all the experts out there!

Is anyone else having the problem with the advanced options tab on the irishgenealogy.ie website? Prior to their update about last year, this feature worked beautifully. I could enter the father's surname, an area, a time frame, and the mother's surname; then all of their children would show up. I used this quite often in my own personal research. Now this feature shows "no results"....am I doing something wrong or does it no longer work this way? I have submitted this question to them twice now with no response.

Thanks for any help!

Carolyn

If you enter a year that precedes civil registration (1864), you will get "no results."

Hi Patricia,

Yes, I’m aware of that. I’m looking at records post 1865.

Carolyn:

I do not have family post-1865 in Cork, Dublin or Kerry but the process does work for pre-1864. I just checked and verified.

Sorry, Roger....I should have said if you are looking for civil records and enter a year before 1864...

Hi Roger,

I was looking at the civil records, not church records. The church records for Ballymacelligot began in 1868, so I tried the civil record search for the children. For example,

I can enter the father’s name of Clifford, Tralee for registration district and year range say 1865 to 1870. Results show all Clifford births in Tralee, then I click on Ballymacelligot from drop down menu and see lots of Cliffords. I know who “mine” are…from Shanaknock; however when I try this and add the mother’s maiden name of Reidy, that’s when I get no results. I am not researching this family, I’m only giving it as an example.

I wonder if it’s my computer??

Does the advanced options feature only work for church records?

Thanks,

Carolyn

Carolyn:

The irishgenealogy.ie site only captured the mother's maiden name starting around 1898 ( for the Tralee registration district) so any years prior like your 1865-1870 example will give you no results.

Make a civil record search for Clifford civil births from 1895-1900 in the Tralee registration district. You should get 51 records but only the records for 1898-1900 have a Mother's Birth Surname. Then make another Clifford search same time period but show Connor as the Mother's Surname and you will see 4 records.

Thanks so much! That answers my question about the advanced search options! I knew someone would know the finer details!
