irishgenealogy.ie new website searches?

Irishgenealogy changed their website and now I can't figure out how to search as I used to. If I enter parent names for birth or baptism - it always says No Records Found, even if I know there is a record there? Before- I think I could search for children of parents? As I recall, I could search for godparents too (there was "another name" field before?). Then - it used to list all the locations of found records on the left and I could select a certain place - now it just gives a long, large font, list that needs to be scrolled thru? I'm puzzled by these changes and wonder if I'm doing something wrong? Anyone know how this site be searched now to find children with specific parents in specific places? Thanks!

Just put the name in you are searching for, when the list shows if you know where they are from look left and you will see the areas listed click on that to narrow it down the go back up and add the year, then you should find what you are looking for. When you do click in the name and you will exactly what you saw before.   I found it fine, I know other didn't like it. ok Cheers Margot   Oh if you get stuck give me the details and I will try and find it. ok

MBradley:

I agree that the changes to the irishgenealogy.ie site has made it very difficult to search for church baptismal and marriage records. The old site was very easy to use parents names etc. to find baptismal records for children as you indicated.

They did provide an Advanced Options Tab which allows you to show a parent name or a sponsor/witness name but I don't believe it is working properly based on my testing a few minutes ago.

I would send them a message and express you dissatisfaction with the site.

Margot - There is nothing on the left to click on - I am using my iphone - Perhaps it is different on a computer? And Roger - yes, the Advanced Search doesn't seem to work. I've written - but they don't respond. It was so easy and elegant before to search.

MBradley

Margot - Yes on my computer I get the left listing the locations. But. not when I use my phone. The Advanced Search on computer still gives No Records Found, tho, if I try to enter parent name there.

MBradley

Yes a PC, any phone is too small.   Mothers names don't show until about 1900 or later in the Civil records.

Give me the names of who you are looking for, where would help and the years and I will look. ok.

Thanks anyway Margot! Using my computer now so locations listed, but Advanced Search with parent names still not working. This is not searching by mothers surname, which I knew weren't added on index till later. But -I used to be able to search using parent first names (eg John, Bridget) and get children with parents having those names, but now it just returns. No results found.  I think that's broken.

MBradley

Well go to familysearch.org           then when you find your names go back to the site again and get the details, if you tell me the names I would do it for you.  Are you a member of Ancestry? that does the same thing.

I search between all of them as some were not moved over to Ancestry or other paid sites. It really depends on the years you are searching.  ok  (I log off on here at 5.00pm every day so I just missed your reply)
