Irish Pensions

My grandfather came from Londonderry but I do not know the parish.
According to the 1911 census he lived in Northland avenue Urban 1 .
His Name was William McCombe and his wife was Martha Moore.

They came to NZ in 1925.

I wish to know if my grandfather would have received a pension from the British govt and if so how can I find out about it.
He worked as a Jailor at one time, was in the south african war and then the first world war.

He later worked as a collar trimmer in the Shirt Factories where his Father Samuel was a sewing machine mechanic.

Any information would be gratefully received!
thanks, Carol Murphy

Hi Carol, I am looking at old queries and firstly the area was known for shirt production.

It would appear to me that he would and should have received a pension for his service, I think pension and other records are held in Kew in London. https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ or in Belfast at PRONI see https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/campaigns/public-record-office-northern-ire…;

There is a subscription site Forces War Records also, not too expensive I think.

Ancestry have a William McCombe, Sergeant discharged 1919, address Londonderry and next of kin William McCombe, Service No. 406948 and he was in the Labour Corp. there is also a reference number if this is your man, there are over 100 entries for the name.

Good Luck

Pat
