Irish Ancestry: McGloin, Fox, Gallagher from Sligo and Leitrim

I just a few days ago found some Irish ancestors in early Texas, USA. They were part of the McMullen - McGloin Colony prior to Texas becoming a state. James McGloin was born in Leitrim c1799 and by the 1820's was running a trading post in Matamoros, Mexico with his partner John McMullen. I believe James McGloin had sisters Nellie and Mary. Nellie married Michael Fox and after Nellie died Michael married her sister Mary.

Michael and Mary had a son Patrick who married Mary Ann "Blindy" Gallagher. Patrick was killed in 1869 in Texas,USA. I have found grainy photos of them on the internet.

Any leads will be appreciated.

Thank You

Diana:

None of the RC churches in Co. Leitrim have records back to 1799. Some of the churches in Co. Sligo have records back to the early 1800s but I'm not sure who was from Co. Sligo based on your note.

Thank you Roger.

This particular group of ancestors are new to me. I will work on my notes so I can be more specific.

These are my ancestors. I believe Michael John Fox and Mary McGloin are from the Rossinver area near Manorhamilton; Mary McGloin originally from Sligo (Castlegal perhaps). Patrick Fox was killed by his nephew. He is buried in Gussettville, Texas. Search for McMullen/McGloin in The Handbook of Texas Online at tshaonline.org

James McGloin, the Irish Empresario, was from Castlegal, Co. Sligo.

Hi Diana.  I grew up in Gussettville, Texas and am a descendant of the many Irish settlers that settled that area, including the ones you mention above.  Would love to dialogue with you and answer any questions I can!
