Ireland Freeholders

I have read with interest the latest IrelandXO message regarding the Irish Freeholders list, and it has certainly produced some gems for my research.

One question please: At what age could you apply to register a freehold? Was it 21 as per voting or did another age limit apply? I don't recall seeing anywhere an age restriction on leasing or owning land?

It will help me to differentiate between generations of people with the same name

Many Thanks

Hi Brian:

I am not aware of any age requirement other than full age which would have been 21.  Land held by minors or others would have been held in trust.

I hope that that answers your question.

All the best,
