INFORMATION ON A GARDA IN ABOUT 1935 WHO WAS STATIONED IN CARRIGART IN CO. DONEGAL

Hi, I am looking for more information if possible on my granduncle who was a garda, and in 1935 he became ill when he was stationed in Carrigart in Co. Donegal and was saved by a member of the R.U.C who was stationed at Victoria Barracks in Derry,

I only know all this as i have a paper cutting from that time about my granduncle and i also know he was imprisioned in Wormwood Scrubbs from around 1920 for a period of time.

Thanking you

Hi Ann Marie, I am looking at old queries and you did not give a name but probably makes no difference, I suggest contacting the Garda Museum who may assist

Also if you ancestor was imprisoned in England during the War of Independence he may have been a political prisoner although have not heard of them being held there, however if he had a criminal conviction he was unlikely to be in the police. You may find a mention of him here

https://militaryarchives.ie/collections/online-collections/bureau-of-mi… Search the witness statements to see if he gave one or is menitoned in one.

Good Luck
