Information about farmer Thomas Joseph Learhinan 1842-1930 and family from Kilmihil

In 1900, Delia Bridget Learhinan (my great aunt) immigrated to Queensland, Australia. She travelled "Remittance" with her sisters Annie Maria and Norah aboard S.S Duke of Portland, disembarking in Townsville 5th Feb 1900 before continuing on land to Charters Towers. The passenger list shows her occupation as Domestic Servant and she was aged about 19 years. She married my great uncle (Thomas Wordsworth Gavin Blackburn) on 19 Nov 1904 in Charters Towers. They subsequently moved to Vancouver BC in Canada where they remained for the rest of their lives.

I am looking for information about her parents, Thomas Joseph Learhinan (farmer) and his wife Maria Crowley. The only information I have is about their Marriage - : 10 Feb 1866 Marriage Place: Ireland Father: James Learhinan Spouse: Mary Learhinan FHL Film Number: 101490 Reference ID: 468 Registration district: Kilrush Volume: 4 Page Number: 468 FHL Film Number: 101250.

Any further info about Thomas Joseph Learhinan and Maria Crowley will be gratefully received and further info about Thomas Wordsworth Gavin Blackburn and Delia Bridget Learhinan can be supllied if required.

I think your ancestors may have been from the townland of Leitrim.

Crowley family in 1901:

There’s a load of Crowley and Le(a)rnihan families in Leitrim in 1901 & 1911:

(John Lernihan has completed the return in Irish).

I'd be inclined to order the full marriage certificate to get the couples townlands to confirm this is the right location. Then you cna analyse the various families in the census to work out which is yours. (They'll all likely be related to each other).

You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4 (euros).  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.

Griffiths Valuation for 1855 shows a whole load of Lernan (as the name was spelled then) farm in Leitrim plus 1 Crowley. You can use the Griffiths maps to see where Leitrim is. The individual farms are also marked on it.
