Info on Peter Finn born June 1841 in Glenomara Co Clare

I am trying to find information on my great grandfather Peter Finn born in Glenomara Co Clare in 1841. He immigrated to Australia on 10 October 1860 on the British Trident. He was sponsored by John Egan (deposit date 7 May 1860). His occupation was listed as a labourer. The parish priest was listed as a reference - no name.

He died in Cowra, New South Wales, Australia in 1895. On his death certificate it lists his parents as James Finn and Catherine Maria Egan.

I am specifically interested in his birth certificate and if he had any siblings and his ancestors.

Any information of suggestions on where to look very appreciated. He is the missing link in my tree.

I am happy for any information to be emailed to me - kayespence@me.com

Kathryn,

Per internet

"Glenomara, Clare, Ireland belongs to the parish of Broadford, which is a Catholic parish in the region. Broadford is located near Glenomara and is part of the civil parish system in County Clare."

Peter's death record shows he is Roman Catholic.

Broadford, Killaloe - Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI            They did not start recording baptisms until 1844. Civil records started in 1864. I checked RootsIreland (paid subscription) and did not find siblings baptized 1844+. You could look through the registered to see if you can find any.

Baptisms

19 Jan. 1844 to 23 Jul. 1881

Marriages

10 Feb. 1844 to 31 Jan. 1883

Kathryn:

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilseily civil parish shows a James Finn living on Main St. in the village of Broadford. The townland was Ardskeagh within Broadford village. Likely this is your James Finn.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864.  I looked for a death record for James or Catherine within the Limerick registration district (Broadford and nearby areas are in the Limerick registration district) but did not find a record. Maybe they both died pre-1864.

One other lead. I located a January 18th 1854 marriage record in Broadford RC parish for a Mary Finn who married a John Carroll. Mary and John were both from Broadford.

Have you tested your DNA? You may get matches on this line.
