THE HYLAND FAMILY of AVOCA

Hello,

I recently made a visit to Avoca and discovered the cottage my Gt grandafather had rented from the Church. it is now a ruin just by the leat that runs to the Avoca Handweavers Mill.

His name was Patrick Hyland and his wife was Johannah Prendergast and they left Avoca circa 1874 after the mines failed and 2 of their 3 daughters had died. The remaining daughter was caleld Marcella, and she was about 3 yrs old when they came to Liverpool - settling in St Helen's.

Patricks parents who also lived in the cottage, were called Joseph and Mary Hyland, and they eventually followed Patrick to England.

Does anyone know of any Hyland's from the Avoca area who might have connections to my family?

Many thanks

Hello,  I  that you would be interested in a site that belongs to my husbands cousin. Google  Mary Hyland Plantagenesta or just Plantagenesta. You will find some information and a photograph. Regards, Lynne Hyland.

My great grandparents were Patrick and Johanna Hyland. Their son, Joseph, the youngest in the family, married Sarah Johnson, living in St. Helen's, were my grandparents. Their daughter Anne was my mother. I met Sarah but Joseph died before my birth. Welcome discussion on sharing family history information if interested.
