Hurley & Donovan

CorkKinneigh (Cork)

Information I have recently found (after a decade of searching) reveals myGGGG grandfather James Hurley was born in 1789 and was a native of Cloonareague. He was buried in the Kinneigh Cemetery in April of1834. His wife Mary (Donovan), my GGGG grandmother, was born in 1796 and was originally a native of Castletown according to a newspaper obituary. She and at least 5 children left Cloonareague and arrived in America around 1842 and settled in Bangor, Maine. Once I found the Hurley cenotaph (photo attached to this message) I thought I had found everything I needed engraved right there on the stone to find out more information on this family's roots in Kinneigh Parish but have come up empty at every turn. If anyone can help with suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to help anyone with any research in the New England area of the US where I live.

Kinneigh is a civil parish and the related RC parishes would be Enniskean/Desertserges (records starting 1813) and Murragh/Templemartin (records starting 1834). Both of these parishes are in the Diocese of Cork and Ross and records for that diocese are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie ; Keep in mind that James Hurley and Mary Donovan would have been very common names and there could be a number of couples with those names in that area of Cork.

I did find a baptismal record for a James Hurley in January 31, 1825 in Enniskeane with those parents. There was also an Anne baptized June 25 1817, Daniel November 1831, Norry May 13, 1831. All were in Enniskeane/Desertserges parish. Obviously, Daniel and Norry were baptized six months apart so they were not brother and sister.

Do you know the names of the children? Obviously John was one son.

My great granghdfather was Daniel Hurley (1814-1898) and he is buried in Kinneigh.  His father was John Hurley and he would have been born in Clounyreagh around 1890, he could be a sibling of James Hurley
