Hunt Family, Killeany More, Glin, Limerick

I descend from Timothy Hunt(c. 1760) and Catherine O’Malley(c. 1760) of Killeany More, Glin Limerick.  Their second known son, John Hunt (1787-1868), emigrated with his family to Hastings County, Ontario, Canada in 1847.  John’s wife, Catherine “Ellen” Culhane died at sea enroute.  John’s sisters, Ellen and Margaret also emigrated, and brothers, Cornelius, Nicholas, Daniel, and Timothy stayed behind.

i will be in Galway in November, and hope to get to Glin for several days.would the public library be able to tell me anymore about the Hunt, O’Malley, or Culhane families?   Which cemetary(s) should I visit?  Any further recommendations?  Thank you!

The records for Glin RC parish start in 1851 after your Hunt family left. The civil parish is Kilfergus and I checked the Tithe records from 1830 and there were no Hunt records, however, there were many Culhane records in the parish including a Patrick Culhane and a Michael Culhane in Killeany More townland. https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587461/004587461_00391.pdf

Roger,

thank you for the reply.  In 1830 Tithe Aplotment, the family was listed as “Feighe”, listing Cornelius, Timothy, Daniel, and John.  Culhane were also on Killeany More. James Lynch married Margaret Hunt.  I understand Feighe means hunt or hunter.  Perhaps they were hunters for the knights of Glin?  Culhane, I understand, was the hereditary constable of Glin castle.
