Howard & Bruggy associated with Ennis or Tullyvarraga Townland

I'm looking for my Howard or Bruggy ancestors in Co Clare.

The family was Patrick Howard born Cork, Co Cork abt 1801 and died abt 1860. He married Ellen Hehir born abt 1815 (possibly in Tyrone) and died in 1875 Ennis Co Clare.

There had this one child I know of:

John Howard born near Ennis abt 1835 and died 1904 in Lismore NSW Australia. He married Hannagh Bruggy possibly born in Dromline abt 1821and died in Lismore, NSW, Australia 1889.

They had five children that I know of:

Mary Howard b.abt 1858 in Tullyvarraga and died 19 Mar 1860 aboard the ship Hannah More - buried at sea

Michael Joseph Howard born near Ennis 30 Sept 1859 and died 30 May 1941 Lismore NSW Australia

John James Howard b. 1861 Grafton NSW Australia

Bridget Josephine Howard b 1862 Grafton NSW Australia died 2 Sep 1926 Lismore NSW Australia

Mary Ann Howard b. abt April 1867 Lismore, NSW Australia died 24 Jan 1868 Lismore NSW Australia

Mike,

Attached copies of 1901 and I911 Irish Census for Bruggy. The surname was in Killadysart and Coolmeen which is West of Killadysart.

You may find further information on County Clare library  clarelibary.ie/genealogy.

Regards,

McCoy

Mike,

Attached records for Bruggy 1901

To Mary TV and McCoy - thank you so much. I'm still grappling with using the census forms to see which families were associated with the various townlands etc - still have a lot to learn there. I had an inkling about John Howard and Hannah Bruggy from Australian records. So (like everyone else) I'm a bit lost looking for John Howard & Hannah Bruggy and and their parents. I will continue to search and post back here if I find anything - many thanks indeed.

There was a Mary Howard born in Tullyvarraga Townland, County Clare, Ireland which I believe was near the Shannon Estuary. (there are two different death certificates with almost identical information). According to the certificate, she died at sea on the voyage to Australia aboard the ship Hannah More and was buried at sea in the South Atlantic Ocean on 19 Mar 1860 at Lat 30.30 S Long 24.43 W. The location is puzzling as it is a very long way from land - almost halfway between South America and Africa.

I always thought her parents were John Howard of and Hannah Bruggy. The certificates state John was a Blacksmith and Hannah was a Dairymaid. Something may be off kilter here. Both certificates state that the maiden surname of the mother was Hannah Howard. I assumed it would be Bruggy - maybe I have the wrong information?

Does anyone know why there would be two death certificates?

Mike,

Marriage of John Howard and Hannah Bruggy, the Witnesses are recorded as Dan Mac and Catherine Bruggy. Mac is usually short for McNamara.

There is a baptism for a John Bruggy in Newmarket-on-Fergus 1837. Sponsor|: Catherine Hehir.

There are a number of families who are recorded as "Broggy" which is possibly an error in the spelling of Bruggy.
