Hishon and Enright Familys in Shanagolden

Hi All

I'm looking for any information on my Hishon and Enright ancestors who were from Shanagolden and immigrated to Invercargill New Zealand via Victoria, Australia.

Mary Enright (1780 to 1840) who married Daniel Hishon (1779 to 1854). I only know of two children my ancestor Mortimer Enright Hishon and a brother William Enright Hishon who remained in Shanagolden marrying Frances Langford. Would love to discover more of the family. There are Enrights from Shanagolden who came to New Zealand as well. I'm sure they are Marys family but have yet to make the connection.

Mary is buried in Shanagolden cemetery but have been unable to determine if Daniel is buried with her. Daniel lists himself as from "Old Abey" on her grave stone.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Jane

thanks Patricia and Eileen :-)

I plan to visit Shanagolden and Old Abbey in a couple of years :-)

I'm sure this Mortimer will be related too but perhaps a cousin? My Hishons were in New Zealand by 1887.

Wish I could find some older records

Hi Kiwi Jane,

I hope you still check in with Ireland XO as I am your distant cousin, a direct descendant of William Enright Hishon, brother, I believe of Mortimer E. Hishon.

I am currently researching the descendants of William E. Hishon and Frances Langford. Previous family research carried out by my cousin believed William to have been an only child, that was, until I came across Mortimer Hishon on Findagrave.com and the information you provided. I can’t tell you how excited I was to find the connection. I also believe that there was another brother Cornelius and possibly two sisters. The connections are a little tenuous and require more research to determine provenance of these individuals.

BTW, as posted by Eileen, 15 Aug 2024, the birth of Mortimer to John Hishon, is the grandson of Cornelius Hishon of Moig, the person to whom I am trying find a more definitive family link. Also, the birth of James July 1850 is a tad confusing. According to the baptismal records Daniel was baptised on the 1st July 1850. His name appears as Danielum, Latin for Daniel. If his name was James, it would have been Jacobum. The name James makes ghostly appearances but too vague to catch a thread to follow. One other little connection to Mortimer – he was one of the sponsors/godparents to William and Frances’s first born -Mary.

I have a lot more information that I could provide if you are interested.

I am living in Limerick city as are other descendants of William E. Hishon and Frances Langford.

If you would like to ‘connect’ I would be delighted to hear from you. My profile name is Hishon. If you contact the website administrators, they can send a message to me privately.

Kindest regards

Your cousin,

 Hishon.
