Hennessy- descendants of Nora mother to: Michael John Joseph, Mary (Maisy) & Elisabeth (Bessy) Hennessy

📝 Post Title: Tracing Descendants of Nora Hennessy & Michael John Joseph Hennessy (Midleton to Guildford)

Hello,

I am trying to connect with any distant cousins or relatives of the Hennessy family who might still reside in the Midleton area of County Cork.

My grandfather was Michael John Joseph Hennessy, born in Midleton on July 23, 1915.

Sometime before or around WWII, he emigrated to England and settled in Guildford, Surrey. He did not make this journey alone; he relocated alongside his mother, Nora Hennessy, and his two sisters, Maisy Hennessyand Elizabeth (Bessy) Hennessy (who later married John Smedley in England in 1949).

Because the entire immediate household moved to Surrey, I am looking to find the branches of the family that stayed behind. Michael’s father passed in Ireland, and there would have been uncles, aunts, and cousins belonging to this Hennessy line in Midleton.

If any local historians recognize this specific family group or if any Hennessy descendants in Cork recognize these names, I would love to get in touch to share records and fill in the missing pieces of our family tree.

Thank you,

Lee Hennessy

daughter to Robert Peter Hennessy

wow that was fast!

if this gentleman Timothy Hennessy died then that is my family
ended up in Guildford and did very well.

The eldest son of Michael John Joseph Hennessy (aka Jack or Michael John - depending on who you were) was called Timothy, the next son was my father Robert Peter and they had a sister called Noreen.

Michael John married an English lady called Violet Illsley
my grandparents- but I am looking for family still in Ireland.

Lee,

I haven't found any additional info but you might want to check out this link.

Yes.

Norrah had 3 children:

Maisy (Mary Bridget)

Bessy (Elisabeth)

and my grandfather Michael John.

Timothy Hennessy is/was my father’s brother.

My father was Robert Peter Hennessy and they had a sister Noreen. Not sure where she is now but she had 3 children.

i think there was a cousin (?) who came with them to Guildford - Kathleen - married to Michael (O’Brian??)

i remember seeing Kathleen when I visited my great aunt Maisy. (

Violet Anne Illsley was my grandmothers maiden name - married Michael John Hennessy in January 1938 from what I can find.

leehennessy66@gmail.com

I don’t know when they left.

i think the 3 children (grandfather and his 2 sisters) were grown.

My grandfather served in the Queens Royal regiment during WW2. I can’t access his records (other than 1 medical list upon which he appeared - shot in the calf circa April 1943).

I know my great grandmother Nora(h) was 86 when she died so born 1890, married at 21 in 1911
looks correct - thank you so much - I feel like I have gained a generation. đŸ˜

Lee,

If you are referring to Irishgenealogy, the N/R and the Null I think refers to the mother's name not being transcribed on the summary. The copy of the original record which you access by clicking on 'View record image' contains the mother's full name.
