Hi Ina,

I believe I found those records, the parish was St. Mary, Haddington Road, Dublin 4

Hi Brendan,

Have you any idea where I can get copies of the entries in the parish registers? The record I found shows page number etc., but I don't know where the records are held now. I will only be in Dublin for 2 days and if they are in the National Archives I will have to try to arrange a readers ticket in advance?

Are you related to the Price's?

Regards

Hello Ina,

I assume that you have found the baptismal records on www.irishgenealogy.ie which holds the records for most of Dublin?  As you haven't included any informtion re dates or parentage , I can only assume that this is where you got your information.

In this site just click on the name and it will bring up all the details of the record.  At the end of the page there is an option to view the original record.  You can always take a screen shot of this page.

You can of course go to the church where the priest could copy out the details of the record from the original books.  Many priests (assuming RC?) don't like to go through the old registers as there are copies of all the registers in the National Library.  Copies were also allowed for online searching between two sites www.rootsireland.ie    and    www.irishgenealogy.ie

Hope this helps a little.  Any questions just let me know.

KInd regards,

Anne Dennehy

Copies of Parish registers are available to view on microfiche in the national library of ireland, Dublin. If you go to the nli website you can check to see what they have for St Mary's.  Hope this helps.

Let us know if you can't find what you're looking g for.

Hi Ina,

Write to the parish and give them the details of the records you require, enclose 20 euro for the two records. They will post the records to you. Address is above.

The National Library and National Archives issue you a readers card on the day you apply, you need photo ID and a copy of a utility bill, no photo ID and utility bill, no readers card

Hi Ina

I just want to clarify a couple of things.  I hope nobody minds.

1. The records on the Irish Genealogy site relate to the parish of St Mary.  They do not appear to belong to the Pro Cathedral, Haddington Road or Donnybrook (the other St Mary's).  If you select the option to 'browse database by location' on the home page, then select 'Dublin (RC)', you will see the four options for St Mary's.  Your records for Timothy and Richard Price appear under St Mary.  I am not sure what parish this is and further investigation is required.

2. When visiting the National Library of Ireland you only require a Readers Ticket if you are going to request access to books, newspapers, manuscripts etc.  You do not need a Readers Ticket to look at the Parish Registers on Microfilm.

3. The microfilm copy of the Parish Record (if one exists) may not give you any addtional information, however, it is always worth a look.

4. Writing to the Parish and asking for copies of entries does not always work.  You should email or phone them first to check if they have the registers and if they are prepared to look for the records you require.  They may also have a set fee for such work.

I hope this has helped.

We know the family were living in the parish of St. Mary Haddington Road, this has been already well researched. I was baptised there, my aunt was the head mistress of the parish school. Sending a request with money for records has worked in the past. The other option is to order the records in advance and collect them while you are in Dublin from the parish office.

Once again, thanks for all of you help and advice. I will sit down quietly at the weekend and work out what my next step should be. I still don't know if these records are part of my family.

I will give you some background if I may:

My great grandfather, John Price,  was in the British army, and gave his place and date of birth as Mullingar in 1846, when he enlisted.I visited Mullingar some years ago, but bothe the CoI and RC churches were, at that time, less than helpful, so cannot even prove this! He also gave his fathers name as Timothy Price. I have been searching for Timothy for around 20 years now and as this Timothy was baptised in 1819, the ages might be about right. An old uncle used to tell me that John came from Ballyshannon, but we sort of discounted that story when the army records showed otherwise. Knowing what I know from his army records, I would not be surprised if John lied! Incidentally, he enlisted in Sheffield, Yorkshire, but I have no idea what he was doing there, as it was between census's, but that6 is another story.

thanks again for all of your help - isn't the internet making family searches so much more fun!

Hi Ina, my name is Alejandro Price. And my great-grandfather's name is John Price, born in Co.Mullingar (apparently in Rathconnell but we are not sure) born apparently in the year 1842 (but idk if that's correct.).
I know your post is a bit old, but maybe we can chat and share more information.
Regards!

Does someone know how I can contact Ina Glover? This could be my chance to know a bit more about my family tree. Also, my parents are traveling in a few months to Ireland and could be interesting.
