Help Please

This is going to be aa very long shot, I was born in 1956 in Cheltenham Gloucestershire, my mother was was only 16/17 and unmarried, she was in service in a private school outside of Cheltenham.

I understand my father was someone called Michael Brennan or possiblty Mick, I have just received back my DNA results and it would appear my family came from Connacht, North Connacht. Bearing in mind this was 1956 did he come to the uk for work? Did he live in Gloucestershire? There is some word that he might have come from the Birmingham area, my mother came from Newport in wales, her name was Mary Pugsley, Was he a Dock workerr from Gloucester? I have traced her family, no one knows nothing about this Michael, not even Marys family knew about me. Does aanyone have any cooentions with a Brennan who had connections with Gloucestershire in the mid 50s I live in hope. Thanks everyone Regards Chris

Hi Chris, I am answering old queries on the site. The site does not deal with things less than 100 years old normally as it is more a paper based research site and do not deal with living people, of course someone may see the post etc

I have done DNA and an on a number of DNA based Irish Facebook pages, most counties have one, also genealogy pages as well apply to join, I notice people can be helpful on them and they are private and well moderated etc if you want to give it ago, the DNA ones often use Gedmatch, leave you to decide on using it, read the terms and conditions, some people do not like them, they allocw police access for very serious crime. There are also surname based groups on Gedmatch  and Facebook but not sure of Brennan, all these pages require you to apply to join. There are also Ireland pages but they tend to give huge amounts of matches and people trying to match at 10 to 20cMs so a lot of matches and no paper records.

Good Luck in your efforts

Pat
