HANNON/HANNAN FAMILIES

I would like some information on my ancestors the Hannon Family, if possible, please. I know some lived and are buried in Clonbur and that some were members of the RIC. I would like to get additional information on where they served in the RIC and where they originated and what happened when the RIC dispanded. Are there any decendents left in the region at this time who would like to make contact?

Many thanks,

Maria Hannon.

Can you provide names and dates which might allow our volunteers to possibly assist you? Clonbur RC parish is in the civil parish of Ross. I checked the 1901 census and could not locate any Hannon/Hannan records in the Ross District Electoral Division (DED). Maybe I have the wrong parish?

Below are two links which provide background and history on the Royal irish Constabulary.

Dear Maria

There is a website that you can make use of in relation to the RIC:

http://www.royalirishconstabulary.com/

From the above site:
Jim Herlihy's Book 'The Royal Irish Constabulary, A Complete Alphabetical List of Officers & Men' 1816 - 1922 (published 1999/2000) Provides a listing of all 85,000 personnel with each mans service number.

It is also possible to obtain a service number for your ancestor from this volume based on a reliable date of birth / or if you know his date of joining the RIC.

Various other records exist such as the 1901 & 1911 census,
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Hope this helps

Maria,

I too am researching some of my Hannan / Letford Family.   Various spellings Hannan,Hannon   My Brick Wall.   I found  the following marriage record for James Hannan and Elizabeth Letford who I believe are my great grandparents.   James's father is listed as John Hannan and Elizabeth's father is listed as  Robert Letford.   I have also found some records showing James Hannan and Robert Letford as in the RIC.   It is believed that James and Elizabeth migrated to America shortly after their marriage as I have located them in the 1870 United States Federal Census for Missouri.  But I do not now the point of entry.  Now I have just started researching in Ireland, and I am looking for family that might still be in Ireland.
