The Gweedore Relief Fund set up in January 1924 - Gallagher & Doogan families of Thorr, Gweedore
Mrs Fanny Gallagher (maiden name McConnell; Father William, Lettercagh/Lettercau) DOD 28th December 1923?
I would be grateful for any assistance/advice withmy family history research. Through my researchIhave become aware that my paternal grandmothers death although taking place on 28th December 1923?. is entered inthe Dunfanaghy Superintendent's Register for the district of Gweedore page 1 04375292-25 in July 1924. The cause of death is recorded as influenza, 1 week; no medical attendant and was reported by her husband Manus Gallagher of Thorr, on the 29th of July 1924.
Having obtained newspaper reports for this time-period(December 1923 to March 1924) the newspapersstatemy paternal grandmother starved to death numerous editions of the Derry Journal and Irish Independent newspapers reported onmy paternal grandmother'sdeath and the death of Patrick Doogan (accidental death by drowning). These two deaths and the plight of the surviving members of both of these families resulted in The Gweedore Relief Fundbeing set up in January 1924.
My father James and his five siblings were the Gallagher children recorded in the newspapers as was their father, Manus Gallagher, Thorr, Gweedore my paternal grandfather.
I would be grateful if you could offer any further insighton"The Gweedore Relief Fundthat was set up in January 1924 and if you could tell me which graveyard my grandmother is mostlikely to be buried in!
Many thanks
Anne
