Guinan's from Timsallagh or Spring Grove

Galway

Good day!

I have traced my Guinan line to Galway finally. The last known ancestor I have from Spring Grove is

Michael Guinan b unk d unk married Margaret Noonan b1804 d 22 Mar 1880 Spring Grove/Timsallagh in the Kilquan parish. Looking for descendants or ancestors from this area who may be able to help me with my family tree. The siblings - Bernard, Bridget, Daniel and Michael, emigrated to the states circa 1850s and all settled in Kingston NY and Port Ewen NY. Two siblings, Mary and Anne, remained in Ireland with their mother Margaret Noonan Guinan widow of Michael Guinan a farmer.

I see a death for Anne Guinane on 9.8.1898, aged 65, in Spring Grove. Spinster. The informant was her brother-in-law Edward Kenney, also of the same townland.

This is evidently Edward Kenny in the 1901 census, with wife Mary:

Edward junior’s birth in 1875 reveals that his mother’s maiden name was Mary Guinan. So if I have the correct Mary, she married Edward Kenny but stayed in Spring Grove.

Mary Kenny (nee Guinan) died 19.2.1912 at Spring Grove:

2 Guinan(e) households in the townland in 1901 who are presumably related to your family:

Thank you so very much. YesI believe these are my Guinan's. I am trying to also find a record for my gg gf who emigrated around 1848-1849. He may have been in that town as well prior to emigrating. His name John Guinan b 1822-1823 He was either a cousin or brother of Mary Guinan Kenny. He may have also had a brother Bernard, a brother Michael and a brother Daniel. I am unable to get a death certificate from here as there seems to be no record, but he died around 1886 in New York. He married Honor Dolan who was also from Galway after he arrived in New York. I do know her parents names were Michael Dolan and Ellen according to her death certificate. She was born in 1834 and died in New York April 21, 1898.

Thank you for your response

Hi Kelley
Just joined this page. My grandfather Patrick Guinan was born in springrove as below.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Derrew/Spring_G…

I don't know what happened but the Guinan family had a large farm in springrove but my grandfather's father Bernard and his brother Thomas had a falling out and Bernard sold his half of the land and Thomas kept his half. Thomas still has descendants in springrove.

My grandfather moved to a local village Kiltormer and married Mai Sheil.

Hope this is a help to you

Hi Kelley - still attempting to connect John with the Guinan ancestors who emigrated to Kingston.   Discovered some info on his children - Bridget, James, Catherine.

Hi, I am a descendant of Mary Guinan/ Edward Kenny. I am awaiting my AncestryDNA and hope it will fit with John, Michael, Daniel, Bernard and Bridget KIlfoyle being siblings

Hi Miri

Mary Guinan would most likely have been a sister or cousin to my gg gf John (1823-1886) who stayed behind when the others emigrated to USA around 1849-1850 during the famine. I would descend from your Guinan's too. I have also done dna .

Hi Miriam

Im sorry for this late reply. Thank you for all of the information you provided. I decided to give my ancestry a rest, and have recently started looking again.

I do not use Facebook, but I have done my dna. I believe you and I are related through dna. I am on ancestry . com

I followed you on wiki and will be sorting through that as well.

Thank you for all the work you've done. I appreciate it.
