GEDmatch Ancestor Projects
GEDmatch has just announced its "Ancestor Projects." Would it be useful to create an ancestor project for each of thecounties?Or, is there something like that happening already? Imagine, for example, groups ofresidents with long histories in each county who would create a project for their county. Matches to that core group could help others to zero in on their ancestral Irish locations.
This is the descriptor from GEDmatch:
"Ancestor-Projects is a GEDmatch feature to provide a place for projects where members have DNA characteristics with whatever common trait or ancestry you wish to examine.
"You have complete control over who may join. There will be unique applications especially designed for ancestral groups. "Currently, there is a single application that allows identification of matches and analysis of shared segments down to 3 cM, with results limited to members within the group. "If you think you might like to create a GEDmatch project, send us an excel spreadsheet with a single column containing one kit number per line. New projects should contain at least 20 kits."
"We will derive names and email address from the GEDmatch database. Make sure you notify members of your group that they are being included in this GEDmatch Ancestor-Project "Also, please send me the name(s) and email login of people who are authorized to be administrators of the group.Project administrators will be able to add new members into the group, and remove existing members from the group. "To set up a GEDmatch Ancestor-Project for you, I need the name of the group, plus 2-3 sentences that explain the group and what it does.
"If you would like to create a group in Ancestor-Projects, please contact us. "It will speed things up if you can include the things mentioned above in your initial email."
