Garveys of Kilmore
My grandfathers grandfather was James Gerv Conroy. His mother was Sarah Garvey, who married Luke Malachi Conry, M.L., and her sister Anne Garvey married Owen OBeirne, and had by him Cecilia OBeirne, mother of Stiofn Bairad, of whom a translation of his Irish-language biography was just posted in this parish. They had a brother, who became a medical doctor, in Westport, and a third sister, who married a Mr. Greene.
Their father, James Garvey, Esq., was from Kilmore, and given that Luke Malachi Conry (said in the Irish Law Times and Solicitors Journal to be from Clonskea, in the county of Roscommon, which I believe to be in error for Cloonahee, near where he worked as director of the Strokestown Classical Academy, he was born at Runnacocka/Lisaphillip West in Kilmacumsy) and Sarah Garvey married, it was at Aughrim in Kilmore.
Anybody know anything of Garveys in Kilmore ? James Garvey, Esq., great-grandfather of Stiofn Bairad and of my great-grandfather Charles ONeill Conroy, would likely have been born sometime about 1780-1790. Luke Malachi Conry (baptised at Elphin but the record shows Conty) who married Sarah was born in 1811 in any event.
