Gannon family in Roscommon

Hello! My great-great grandfather was Dominick Gannon, born in Roscommon, and he married Ann Shanley.   They had a son, Michael Gannon, who was born in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1847, and who fought in the US Civil War.  I do not know the birth or death dates of Dominick Gannon or Ann Shanley, and I do not know Ann’s birthplace.  Does anyone have any clues they can give me?  Also, does anyone know of any relatives of Dominick or Ann living in Roscommon?  I may be visiting there soon.  Thank you very much!

Hello,

There is a marriage record on Ancestry for Dominick Gannon and Anna "Ranly" in the RC parish of Aughrim, Roscommon in Feb 1842. I think it was transcribed incorrectly because the original entry looks like Shanly, and one of the witnesses was Michael Shanly - his surname is clearer to see.

You can find the original marriage register page at registers.nli.ie. Just enter Aughrim (Diocese of Elphin) in the search box, and then in the drop down menu; select marriage, 1842, February - you will see the record on the left side of the page at the very bottom.

The parish baptism records for the RC parish of Aughrim began in 1816, but I could not find any baptism records for either Dominick or Anne.

Regards,

Carolyn

Hi, there are a number of online trees for this famiIy on Ancestry. One says that Ann died in 1850 and that Dominick remarried to Mary Morgan and had more children.

This news clipping indicates Dominick died 2 May 1878 at age 66 years, 8 months.
