Gannon Dempsey

Looking for Gannons in Ballycommon Parish Patrick Gannon married Anne Dempsey in Daingean in 1836 but lived at Ballycommon (Anne had a brother John and a sister Mary

Patrick and his 2 brothers John and Timothy were convicted and transported to Tasmania in the early 1840's Its likely there were at least 2 or even other brothers living in Ballycommon James (and Catherine/kitty Keegan) Ignatius (and Betty Finley) and Thomas (and Bridget Keating)

Any descendants or information on any of the above would be most appreciated

I looked at the Roots Ireland indexes for records in Daingean RC parish which corresponds to Ballycommon civil parish. I found a 1798 baptismal record for a Patrick Gannon with parents Patrick and Mary. I don't know if your Patrick was born that far back. I could not find baptismal records for John and Timothy with the same parents so maybe this was a different Patrick.

The 1824 Tithe listings for Ballycommon parish show three Gannon entries including a John Gannon in Ballycommon and a Patt Gannon in Bracklin. Here is the John record.

I also looked at the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballycommon civil parish and there was a Thomas Gannon in Ballycommon possibly the brother of Patrick.

Hi Peter,  I have just recently found and joined this site and found your message.  Letting you know that I am the great, great, granddaughter of Patrick Gannon & Anne Dempsey.   I know from the convict records that Patrick’s mother was Rose and he had a sister Honora  along with his brothers Timothy and John who were transported to Tasmania . I think also that Anne’s brother John was transported with them but will follow up on the info that I have.  Hoping we can both  help one another in our research.  Regards Wendy.

Hello Peter,  WendyMac & others, I too am a descendant of Patrick Gannon & Ann Dempsey. 

They are my Great- Great Grandparents.

My name is Irene & I live in Trafalgar Victoria, Australia 

My father was Edward William (Ted) Gannon, born 15 Nov 1927 Mentone Vic - D 10 Mar 2005, Newborough Vic. 

Ted was the only son of 2 children born to William Clement (B 3 June 1892) Deloraine - D 9 March 1959 Yallourn Vic).

William Clement Gannon was a WW1 veteran. 

William (6th of 8 siblings - 1 fostered) to Timothy Vincent Gannon (B 13 June 1951 Deloraine - D 15 July 1934 Rosebery Tas) & Elizabeth Agnes Lacey.

My Pop William Clement Gannon was a grandson of Patrick Joseph Gannon & Ann Dempsey 

My brother Brian had previously been in communication, but he has now passed. I plan to visit Ireland within the next 2 hrs, so making contact has become important.
