Hi Sid

Here is the earliest birth/baptism for a Venables on www.rootsireland.ie/

Name:David VenablesDate of Birth:
Date of Baptism:30-Jan-1675Address:LisburnParish/District:BlarisGender:
CountyCo. Antrim
Denomination:Church Of Ireland
Father:Murtogh Venables

There were no Fredericks I'm afraid; there were 53 Venables records from various counties - this was the only John:

Name:John VenablesDate of Birth:27-Jan-1871
Registration Date:14-Apr-1871Address:MullaghanaParish/District:DUNGANNONGender:MaleCountyTYRONE
Denomination:Registration District
Father:Thomas VenablesMother:Mary Anne HorayOccupation:Labourer
Sponsor 1 /
Informant 1:Mary Anne

There are no Venables in the Irish Censuses (free online) of 1821, 31, 41 or 51 but 1901 uas 49 of them - in several counties (no Fredericks however!)

There are 7 in the Tithe Applotments (free site) in 1825 - all but 1 in Cavan.

There are over 200 in Griffiths Valuation 1848 - 64 (free online)

findmypast.ie/ has a record of a Frederick Venables born 1886 & went to US in 1939 - could that be your Frederick?

I have access to findmypast tomorrow afternoon so can get the record if you think that's him.

Have you tried ancestry.com? There is a private member phot of Frederick Henry Venables (born 1906) taken 1957 in Transvaal. Where in S Africa were your Venables?

Dear Colcaff

Thank you for the reply and information.

I did mention that i was not too sure of all names of my great grandfather and there is a possibility that he only had one name..??

The John Venables that you mention(birthdate 27 jan 1871) could be interesting .Is there any indication that he could have possibly emigrated to South Africa? Would there be any such record via ship or leaving the parish...??

The Frederick Henry Venables could possibly be my grandfathers brother. I know he had some brothers up north of Johannesburg,Transvaal.

All our family Venables were in the Johannesburg,Transvaal area.

Im sorry if i sound sketchy but i really dont have any information. And the family for some reason also had no idea.

Regards

Sid Cunha

I am researching Bells from Glenavy in Antrim. One of the genealogical websites that a Robert Bell married a Mary Alice Venables around 1800. I couldn't verify this information up to now. I thought the earlier censuses were destroyed in 1922?
