Find Hayes John Micheal

Dear IrelandXO Volunteers,

I am looking for some help from France to trace my Irish ancestor, John Michael HAYES, who was born in County Cork (family stories mention he might have owned land there, possibly around Grenville Place).

He emigrated to South Africa, where his son James Paul HAYES was born in Cape Town in 1891.

We are currently waiting for documents from the South African archives, but I would love to know if any local volunteers in Cork have records of a Hayes family matching this description around the late 19th century, or any advice on where to look for his birth/baptism in Cork.

Thank you so much for your voluntary help and for keeping this wonderful network alive!

Best regards

What year was John Michael born? Civil registration of births started in 1864 and records are available at irishgenealogy.ie Baptismal records for Cork city are also found on irishgenealogy.ie You need to check Church records for Cork. The key for searching would be having the parents names. There should be a good number of John Hayes baptismal record in Cork.

Did he marry in Ireland? Do you have his wife's name?
