Father William McNulty born 1829 Ballyshannon and went to NJ America

Ballyshannon (Kildare)

I am related to Anthony McNulty and Bridget Linsky in County Mayo.  As I've researched them back to America with 6 daughters around 1850, My Great Grandmother Mary McNulty ended up in Rochester, NY with several of the sisters.   I came across a Father William N. McNulty.  Born 1829 and died 1922 in NJ.  He had a celebration in the NJ St Patrick's Cathedral with family from Ballyshannon:  Geraldine McNulty McLaughlin, her brother Eamon McNulty, and her son Seamus McLaughlin.

One source on the internet mentioned a Father William McNulty who was the first pastor of the Callow Church - where I believe relatives were baptised, etc.

Could my McNulty's from the Forford/Swineford Killasser Parish area have a connection to Ballyshannon?  I will be visiting Ireland later this year and would like information about anything that might be helfpul in my research.  thanks!  I will reach out to the Mayo group, too.

What information do you have regarding Callow Church? By the way, I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland in Co. Kildare and there were no William McNulty records in Co. Kildare.

Hi Roger,

I came across the original Callow Church information during my reserach and say the notation of a McNulty pastor but can't seem to find it easily again.  I believe it was on a website so might be suspect - I couldn't verify that specific information in other areas but still looking.  I have recently come across a wonderful book 'Killasser - Heritage of a Mayo Parish' but so far only mentions McNulty family as predominant, I was hoping to tie it back to my McNulty family in the area.

I do have a reference to a Father McNulty who came to NJ that might be helpful.  William N. McNulty - Wikipedia. William N. McNulty (1829-1922), was an American pioneer Roman Catholic priest, who arrived in New York from his native Ballyshannon, Ireland in 1850, during the time of the Great Famine and when, there, then, existed little in the way of Roman Catholic facilities about near by Passaic County, New Jersey.

When i track it down, I'll post again.

Audrey
