Father Casey

LimerickAbbeyfeale (Limerick)

My great grandfather Maurice Casey was from Abbeyfeale, as was his wife, Kate Murphy. They immigrated to Cleveland Ohio in the 1870s, and were married in Cleveland. From what I heard, growing up, from my grandmother, Fr Casey was her cousin! Someday I will make it back to Ireland and see his statue!

Yes--that statue still stands in the square in Abbeyfeale in a tribute to the great work he did in terrible times. I think that Fr. William Casey came from Castlequarter, Co. Limerick. His nephew was the Fenian Author John Sarsfield Casey 1846-1896. My Grandmother was Margaret Lewis from Bansha and she was his 1st cousin.
