Farrell, Nora

Hi:  I am Nora Farrell's granddaughter, Jo in America.

She lived in Gort, Galway in the early 1900's.

Does anyone have any information regarding her emigration to England?

I believe the Sisters of Mercy might have been involved...

Thank you!

Do you know her birthdate? there is one in 1908.

What would the sisters of Mercy have to do with her?

Going to England from Ireland, you didn't need any documents....they were both ruled by Great Britain.

You are in the US, did she go there?   Or stayed in England?   Did she marry?  Who to?

There was a Convent of Mercy in Gort run by the Sisters of Mercy.

I found a Norah Farrell in Gort in the 1901 Irish census, living with her family on Church St.

Hello!

So, Nora, or Norah, Farrell was born 10-02-1893, in Gort.  According to the 1901 Census, she lived at 24 Church Street with her family:  her father Fergus Farrell and mother Mary who's maiden name according to Sr. deLourdes, whom I met in 2012 as part of an Ireland Reaching Out Campaign, was a variation of Carey, or Kheary, or something....  My mother and her sisters always mentioned a last name of Henderson though.  Mary may have had both names as it seems like she was married before Fergus Farrell and had a son Christopher, who according to the Census is a stepson of Fergus.  I'm trying to locate Nora's Birth Certificate.  I'm retiring soon and would love to spend more time in the Gort and Coole Park area - it's so beautiful there.  Any help would be appreciated!!!  Thank you, Jo

Oh, and she did end up in England where she died 12-19-1980.  All her brothers and sisters emigrated to the US.  She was the only one who went to England.  I believe she had some children in Gort also...
