Family of Samuel McClean

I am lookingor John McClean. His name could also be spelt McLean. He would have been born about 1790. He married Prudence Alistair (I think) in 1821. I know he had the following child, but other children I do not know of yet. John died 1873 in Castlebar, Mayo, Ireland. I have tried a few sites and cannot find Samuel's parents or family (if any siblings at all) for a while now. I am hoping that John and Prudence are the correct parents as I found them in familysearch.org with Samuel as their son. The son is Samuel McClean b: 1828 in Newry, County Armagh. migrated on board the ship "Osseola in 1852 to Australia. Met and married Maria Atkinson in 1853 Melbourne, Australia. d: 1869 Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. They eight children.

Is there anyone out there who could possibly help me here. As I mentioned, I am unsure of the parents up till now. They are the only ones who had Samuel as a son with the same birth details. These are the family of my partner Alan McClean born in South Australia to Ernest Edmund McClean and Margaret Mary Lee. His grandparents are Alfred Ernest McClean and Janet Watson Haskett. His GGrand parents are Frank McClean and Sarah McNaughton.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Valma, I am looking at old queries and i searched for both McLean and McClean on a subscription site Roots Ireland, no hits on the name at all, we rely mainly on church records at this remove and you do not mention one, however unusually I see the Church of Ireland (Anglican or Protestant) records only commence in 1840, very late by there standards where they exist, ie in my parish they commence in 1702. You can see the parish records and what is available here

https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers…

Also note that the records for the parish of Kilbride, Killala more later.

Catholic records commence around 1838 and if Presbyterian may be held by them, civil records are free online but only commenced in 1864 for all and 1845 for Protestant marriages.

Back to Kilbride, a parish in Mayo on the north coast, see here https://www.townlands.ie/mayo/kilbride/ I looked at the Tithe Applottments (a church tax much hated collected 1824 to 1838) in 1833 there are both McClean and McLean in Kilbride, some may be repeats as the same names occur twice and I am not sure if it is the same person, you can view the records here but just names.

https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp&nb…;

I see 4 marriages later, 2 are Catholic, one C of I and 1 Prebyterian but these are the earliest, none in Kilbride or Castlebar.

Please revert if anything strikes

Good Luck
