Family O Sughrue

Hi ! I am looking for a distant ancestor, Mortaugh O Sughrue, born in Aumogny diocese( renamed?) , baptised at St Peter s church. His son, Theodore,( 1729-1795) left Ireland to become an officer in the French regiment of Clark. He married a French woman in Vitre, Britanny. Theodore s son, Franois Louis O Sughrue was born in Britanny but migrated to the French island of Mauritius and produced a large family. As my recent DNA analysis shows that I am 20% Irish, I would like to know more about Mortaugh and any family I might be related to in Ireland. Any information will be much appreciated. Thanks. Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Very likely your ancestors came from Co. Kerry which is where almost all Sugrue/Sughrue families came from. However, you will not find church records back to 1729.  The Roman Catholic Diocese in Co. Kerry is the Diocese of Kerry. I tried to find a civil parish or townland which has a spelling close to Daumogny with no success. Possibly one of our other volunteers might have a suggestion.

Let me know if you have any questions.
