Hello IllinoisLass
Thank you for your post. I have had my ftDNA done. How do I get the results to you so you can do a comparison?
I hope the following may be of help.
Certificates state both James Ambrose and Mary Magrath/McGrath were born in Limerick. They were married shortly after arriving in Australia in late 1841. There were some Ambrose families living in Ballingarry Limerick in the mid 1840s. It is possible James and Mary knew each other in Limerick. Names of their parents are not noted on the marriage certificate.
Birth of Mary Anne Ambrose born C1860 unconfirmed as the only records I can find is the Marianne (Mary Ann) born 1852 who died 1853 at 21 mths old. (Measles).
Some trees have another Mary Anne being born 1857/8 but no records. As the earlier Mary Anne died in infancy, it is probable a daughter born after this event was also named Mary Anne and this is the person I am descended from.
Mother - Mary AMBROSE nee McGrath died 26 Nov 1864, age 41, Kyneton hospital Vic. Her daughter Mary Anne is noted as 3 years old at the time of her mother’s death. I think she would have to have been older as if she were 3 in 1864, she would only have been 13 when she married in 1877. Her parents are noted as Daniel Magrath and Mary Grady.
Daughter Mary Anne age 17 on cert, for her marriage to John O’Shea 10 Feb 1877. This would make her DOB: C1860.
James Ambrose died 17 Jun 1890 Bundalong Shire of Yarrawonga county of ?? Victoria, Australia. I cannot find any definite records for a second marriage for James.
