Evoy surname

I am looking for help on finding my ancestors with the surname Evoy. My 2nd greatgrandfather was Martin Evoy (abt 1835- 1890). I am not sure where he was born but he passed in St. John's Newfoundland. His brother John (abt 1830-1896)also died in St. John's Newfoundland. I do believe he had more siblingsbut I cannot connect the dots on that yet. Both men married sisters with the last name Crow(e).

Does anyone have knowledge of this surname of people who left for Newfoundland? I did search the mesage boards but only found the surname McEvoy and McAvoy.

I do know that alot of my Evoy ancestors left for Boston, Massachusetts in the 1890's and changed their name to McAvoy.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

One of our volunteers has a site http://www.swilson.info/sdist.php  which allows you to see where surnames were found by county based on Griffiths Valuation data. Evoy was almost exclusively found in Co. Wexford so likely that is where your ancestors are from. We would need the parents names to confirm any baptismal records we might locate. I did locate one possible record on Find My Past for Martin.
