Katja,

Ellen had a brother, William, born 25 Apr 1831 to those same parents in the RC parish of Kilcornan (Stonehall). The marriage records for that parish begin in 1825, so their parents were probably married prior to then.

I also found another birth of a John Murphy to Edmund Murphy & Margaret Neill on 18 Aug 1839 in the same parish....possibly could be Edmund remarrying Bridget's sister if she died.

Not sure about this, but if you have knowledge of John as Edmund's son, then there is a record.

All records were found on the paid site, Roots Ireland.

Regards,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Yes. The family of six children and mother Bridget arrived in Sydney in September 1849 on ship "Sea". The De Vere family paid the passage.

Edward/ Edmund Murphy's death never found and his wife Bridget listed as widow on passenger list.

Mother Bridget's death not found so far nor for sons William and Edmond.

Ancestry trees have some incorrect information.

Not sure if there were more children between 1826 and 1831.

Would like to know what happened to Ellen. Possible she married prior to family emigrating.

 Thankyou

 Katja

Katja,

I looked for a marriage record for Ellen, but could not find one. It's possible that she and her father both died prior to Bridget's emigration to Sydney. Civil death records did not start until 1871, so you will not find them. I looked for the other children on Roots Ireland of Edmund and Bridget, but did not find them.

The name of the town land where Bridget was from is Mountpleasant, not Mount Pherant as shown on Ancestry translation, and her children were born in Curragh.

So, not to add more unknowns to your tree, but I Googled Bridget in Australia, and the first thing that comes up is a Wiki tree for Hugh Murphy, and the siblings that emigrated with him. One interesting fact is that it shows the older sister Mary is a half sibling to him and the rest....and no Ellen, of course. It indicates that Bridget is Mary's mother, but father is unknown. This makes me think that maybe the 1826 Ellen Murphy is from a different family. I have no idea where this information comes from though! The five year gap between Ellen and William is greater than the birth gaps for Bridget's other children. That's possible, of course.

Regards,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

WikiTree also has incorrect information and can be altered by any wikitree member.

Mary's death record attached. She passed away 10 June 1884. I believe her father Edward's occupation was stonemason.

Father listed Edward M Murphy and mother Bridget.

Mary married William Thomas Rosewarne 1850 Carcoar NSW.

 Findagrave #229852020 for Mary

#180897889 Bridget (Murphy) Newham

#180897759 John Murphy

#180861712 Hugh Murphy (my ancestor)

Lots if descendants linked to them.

Not sure on wife and children linked to John Murphy as death has not married.
