Dumferlin - probably misspelled

My Irish great grandfather Michael Cassidy was born in Ireland between 1828 and 1834.

He emigrated to Texas in about 1854

His Texas born and bred wife recorded two Irish place names in the family Bible - Tullentaine (Killaghtee Donegal). and Dumferlin.

I have not been able to identify Dumferlin.  I know translating Irish brogue to Texas Twang, probably resulted in misspelling.

I read the IrelandXO article on old maps, and am posting this because the author of the article said volunteers with knowledge of local geography and history could often identify a place.

I would greatly appreciate any insights.

Suzanne,

I looked on townlands.ie for Dumferlin and any variations, but did not find it. Is it in Co. Donegal too?  Griffith's Valuation records show a number of Cassidy families in Tullinteane.

Regards,

Carolyn

Suzanne:

The closest spelling in Donegal to Dumferlin would be the townland of Drumstevlin in Killymard civil parish. Killymard parish is two parishes east of Killaghtee parish. No Cassidy records in Drumstevlin in the Griffiths.

When you broaden the search to all of Ireland, you find a Drumderglin in Co. Leitrim and a Dunkellin in Co. Galway and a few other possibilities.

Without more clues, hard to say what townland was listed.
