Doyles from County Wexford

I am searching for the birth village of my great-great-grandmother Agnes Cecilia Doyle, born August 1843 in County Wexford. Her parents were John and Anne Doyle, and she had two sisters, Anna M. Doyle (born 24 July 1836 in County Wexford) and Martha Doyle (born 1839 in County Wexford). There may have been another sister Bridget Doyle, and a brother Michael Doyle. Agnes Cecilia Doyle departed Ireland for the U.S. in the 1850s, and she and her parents and two sisters lived in Baltimore, Maryland. In Baltimore,Agnes Cecilia Doyle married John Mattare in the Catholic church and had six children. Anna M. Doyle married Henry Poole and had two children. Martha Doyle did not marry. All five Doyle family members are buried in a family plot in Bonnie Brae/New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore with headstones indicating they are natives of County Wexford. I have not been able to find the Doyles in the Irish Catholic parish records for County Wexford (many of which are missing for the relevant baptismal periods). If you have any information, please reply of contact: jackiewells59@gmail.com Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You are correct Roots Ireland only has 11 of the 48 RC parishes on their data base. I'm going through the same issue with my wife's great-grandfather who was born in Wexford around 1852. I'm going through the parish registers one by one looking for his baptismal record. Maybe after the holidays you can go to http://registers.nli.ie/ to find the parish registers and start looking for the record for Agnes.. Almost all of the parishes in Wexford are in the Diocese of Ferns. A few parishes are in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin and one parish is in the Diocese of Dublin. If you decide to go this direction, let me know and I will let you know the 11 parishes on Roots so you can eliminate searching those parishes.

Thanks Roger!

I searched the online records but without success, and then used a local genealogist in Gorey, Wexford to search the local records. She has reviewed all of the RC parish records that covered Wexford, but she also was unsuccessful in finding the cluster of "my" Doyle ancestors. She found that in some of the parishes, the records for the period when Agnes and/or her sisters would have been baptized are missing from the records, so those records can't be checked. I then placed an ad in the local Wexford papers, and she is checking with local Doyle families, on the outside chance that "my" Doyle ancestors who left for America are in a Wexford family's family tree, history or memory. I keep trying to find my Doyle family location of origin in County Wexford!

See fifth paragaph at this link and also the listing of all tradesmen and important people. I see some Doyles but no Michael.   http://www.igp-web.com/Carlow/Carlow_1846_02.htm

Royal Oak was/is a small village.
