Dovehall / Belgarow. Co Mayo.

Hello there,

hoping someone can help.  My gr gr grandfather Francis Philbin/Filbin was tried 19-1-1847 in Co Mayo and sentenced to 7 years transportation.  There was an article in "The Mayo Constitution" dated 22-12-1846 (page 3) stating that he was "one of a party of three who stole three heifers off the lands of Carnaygun the property of Mr Wellington Strogen of Dovehall near Ballina".

I have managed to find info on Dovehall, but cannot trace CARNAYGUN.

I do have family info after Francis' arrival here in Austtalia  -  just need to locate the property in questtion.

Thanks.     Joy.

Perhaps the townland was Carrowgun, not Carnaygun?

According to four baptismal records on RootsIreland, the family lived in the townlands of Carrowna [possibly Carrownagh], Carrownurlar [borders on Lackanatlieve], and Attychree [Attichree].  Patrick was born in “Lacken Tslebe,” probably Lackanatlieve.
