Dennis Whalen/Whelan from Ballinasloe

I am searching for information about my 3rd great grandparents. I believe Dennis Whalen was from Ballinasloe Galway (several of his sons that emigrated to Boston listed Ballinasloe as birth place) I believe Dennis was born @ 1798-1804. I don't know if he remained in Ireland or emigrated to US. I believe his wife's name was Margarel Donlon. Any help appreciated. Many thanks

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Denis and Margaret were married in 1828 based on this transcription of a marriage record on the subscription site Roots Ireland. They had at least six children: William 1829 Helen 1831 Patrick 1833 Denis 1835 Anne 1843 Mary 1843. The later baptismal records were actually in the RC parish of Clontuskert just south of Ballinasloe. One of the baptismal records showed Gragavoneen which is actually Graigueawoneen townland in Clontuskert civil parish. The records for Ballinasloe and Clontuskert parishes start 1820 or later so no records would be available for Margaret or Denis.

I just watched "finding Your Roots" show which featured actor Nathan Lane.  The show stated that his maternal grandmother was Mary Anne Donnelan of Ballinasloe,  the daughter of Patrick Donnelan and Mary Connor.  Is it possible that Nathan's grandmother Mary Anne Donnelan is related to my Margaret Donnelan?  Any help appreciated!!!
