Delap & Coyle ancestors

I am looking for relatives of Richard Delap and Frances Coyle. Married in 1840. He moved to New York in 1865 with 5 children. They are my 3rd great grandparents

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking in church records for information? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For parish St. Nicholas?, follow this link:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showlikerecords&parish=Dublin%20city&citycounty=Dublin%20city%20city

Also, Irish Genealogy have recently started a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. Only a small number of counties have been completed so far, including Dublin. You can search these records here:

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

Have you tried searching the 1901/1911 census records to see if any family were in the area at the time? You can search these online at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Some other websites that you may find helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

US National Archives/Immigration info: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

Family Search: www.familysearch.org

Dublin Heritage: http://www.dublinheritage.ie/

Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/dublin/index.html

It may also be an idea to contact the Family History Centre in Dun Laoghaire for assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: cmalone@dlrcoco.ie

I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

Kind regards,

Genealogy Support

Hi Joe Behan,

I just made my Ancestry.com tree public in case you want to view the Coyle and Delap records that I have found.  My tree is listed as "meehan family tree" My owner name is Carol Sherry, initials listed as CS. My birth name is Carol Meehan. You can find the Coyle/Delap families on my father's (WalterMeehan) side.  Do you have any family trees anywhere online?  Maybe we can find the connection.

I'm hoping to get back to Ireland soon.  Last time I was there was May 2022. I always feel at home when I'm there! *

Great to hear from you I recently joined Ancestry.

Also I have been researching my mother's side which is Dalton and Coyle 1880s Dublin. I have found Dalton and Coyle, Delap and Coyle Irish records.

My 3x gt grandmother was a Maria Coyle she married a Patrick Dalton here in Dublin in 1840, and a witness at the wedding was a Frances Delap. We are aware thus maybe the Frances Coyle who married Richard Delap...... so she have been sisters?? I have some records I can share with you

So, hello cousin, nice to meet you!
