Delaney Family

LaoisBorris (Laois)

My grandfather, JohnJoseph Delaney, last know address before coming to the US was Borris in Ossary. He was born in 1892 and had 3 siblings : Alice, Mary and Julia.

I am not sure what their dad's name was, yet i believe their mother was Alice or Alicia and her maiden name may have been Pratt.

Their mother left them with their dad and they went to live with an Aunt Maria Treacey, who lived in Ballyqaud Glebe.

I will be visiting Ireland in April and would love to know if any living decendents are still in the area.

Thanks!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Not sure I have the correct John since you mentioned the maiden name of Pratt for Alice. In any event, I located a baptismal record and a civil birth record for a John Delaney with parents Thomas Delaney and Alice McDonald. I also located the 1887 civil marriage record for Thomas and Alice and there was no civil marriage record for an Alice Pratt from 1885-1892. I also provided links to the 1901 and 1911 census record but I presume you have those records.

Did all four children emigrate? It will be very difficult to find descendants. The two Treacey sons likely did not marry.

sorry for complicating things - but I think I've found another family that might fit....

The 1911 census for Ballqaid Glebe townland shows the Delaney children born 'Dublin City' so I looked into these as I was searching, and found the following :

John Joseph 24th August 1892, 23 Room[?], 70 Benburb Street, Dublin city

Julia 5th June 1894, 4 1/2 Jervis St.[?], Dublin city

Mary Ellen 25th November 1896, 5 Jervis St., Dublin City

Alica 5th September 1898, 49 Lower Stephen St., Dublin City

all with parents as parents James Delaney & Alice Pratt, also a marriage for James Delaney & Alice Pratt on 3rd August 1892, St. Paul's RC, Arran Quay, Dublin city

All links are to the free IrishGenealogy website.

Nice find! Glad you found the correct records! I was not overly confident with the records I located.
