Delahunty

I am looking for information on a Margaret Delahunty born 1859 and baptised 1st January 1860 in Templemore.  I think her parents were Patrick Delahunty (Butcher?) and Elizabeth Ryan parents were living in Main Street. She married a Thomas Clarke (his father James Clarke), on 25th June 1882 at St. Peters Church, Athlone.  He was a Drum Sergeant in the 1st North Staffordshire Regiment.  So would he have been stationed in Templemore?  Any confirmation and information regarding her family and his if he’s from Templemore would be wonderful.  Thank you.

I attach Civil Marriage records for a Thomas Clarke who married Margaret Delahunty in Athlone and a Thomas Clarke who married  Anne Dee in Clonmel. He is recorded as a Soldier. Both marriages in 1882

The Witnesses to the marriages may assist.

The 1901 and 1911 Irish census records the surname "Delahunty" in County Tipperary. There is record for a James Delahunty, aged 76 Pensioner 17th Leinster Regiment. It is under the record of a James Hanly.

Margaret's five siblings are as follows: Patrick (1851), Mary (1852), James (1854), Michael (1856), and Anne (1861). All were baptized RC, but Margaret was married in the COI church, so perhaps her husband was COI. It will be difficult to find out where he was from as it just states his residence is the barracks in Athlone,

Please see attached Civil Birth record for a James Patrick Clarke in 1883 -Templemore. Father: Thomas Clarke - Sergeant - Mother: Margaret Delahunty. No. 456 on sheet.

James was baptised Roman Catholic. Baptismal Sponsors: Patrick Delahunty and Anne Delahunty. Source: Subscription Site www.RootsIreland.ie. North Tipperary Genealogy Centre may have further records on this family.
