Daly or deely

I am trying to trace the ancestry of John Deely Parish Priest of Tynagh, County Galway, who died in 1990 at Lisduff County Galway. I would like to establish where John was born, plus his parents names.

Try using this free website if you have the full name it will be easier.  I did find a lot of Deely and Dalys in Galway for that period.  But u will probably need to narrow it down. You should also search the 1901 irish census its also free to use

Nevin,

From John Deely's civil death record in 1890, it shows he was 66 years old...thus BD around 1824. So, the parents that others suggested in your post about Rev. Thomas Burke cannot be John's parents because that marriage record is from 1860. Rev. Thomas Burke was 72 at the time of his death, so his BD is closer to 1812.

I just found a baptism record for John Deely:

birth - 21 Apr 1823, baptized - 23 Apr 1823, in the RC parish of Loughrea, parents - Denis Deely & Bridget Mulhern, sponsors - Anthony Mulhern & Mary Darcy. Denis & Bridget Mulhern were married 4 Oct 1820 in RC parish of Loughrea, witnesses - Anthony Mulhern and Thomas Deely. John's siblings include: Mary, 1821; Mary, 1825; and Denis, 1827. This info is from Roots Ireland.

Carolyn

I agree with Carolyn if this is John Deely's death record, nephew of Rev. Thomas Bourke.

Name:John Deely
Date of Death:1890
Group Registration ID:6572253
SR District/Reg Area:Portumna
Deceased Age at Death:66

Maybe the birth date doesn't fit with him being Thomas' nephew??

I think since he is identified as Thomas Bourke's nephew his mother's surname should be Bourke, a record still to be found or not recorded.

Mary/Nevin,

Good point about what John Deely’s mother’s surname should be. That did not cross my mind when I proposed those baptism records! I do believe that there could be a 12 to 15 year age gap between a nephew and an uncle back in that era. As the title of your post shows, looking for Daly baptisms isn’t out of the question.

Carolyn

Mary,

The civil death record for Rev. Thomas Burke in 1884 shows his nephew John Deely as present at death. Patricia posted this on the other post that you attached above.

Carolyn,

I agree. I am just making sure that Nevin is researching the nephew or some other relative.

Buddy,Carolyn and MaryTV thank you so kindly for all your Info. It does appear that John Deely the Parish Priest Of Tynagh is Father Burkes nephew. Johns mother maiden name would have been Burke. I myself was an uncle at the age of six. Not uncommon in Ireland with young marriages. The baptism record of John is invaluable as it will make me focus on the Loughrea records as opposed to Portumna records. Thank You
