Dalton Family of Kilkenny
Hi,
I wonder if anyone would give me some help please?
I have John Dalton b. 24 Dec 1877 in St Patricks Parish of Kilkenny. He enlisted in the RA in Naas on 11 Nov 1895 age 18yrs - Service No 18846. In his army records he lists his parents as William & Mary Dalton of Patrick Street, Kilkenny and younger brothers as Michael, Patrick, William & sisters Ellen & Mary Ann. John extended his service to 12 yrs on 18 June 1902 but was discharged 12 May 1903 as medically unfit for active service. He was in Portsmouth UK & married to Ellen Welch 15 March 1898 - she died 1902. He remarried to Mary Agnes McNamara about 1906 & had 4 boys - John, Gerald, Maurice Patrick & Noel Henry.
John stayed in the army in the Ordnance corps stationed at No 3 camp, Salisbury Plains as in the 1921 UK census & is on the 1939 register for 50 Park Rd., Wallingford, Berkshire with his 2nd wife Mary, occupation civil servant.
I am having a lot of trouble trying to find information about William & Mary Dalton in Kilkenny. I can't find when they were married so have no idea what Mary's maiden name was. This makes it hard to find birth (maybe baptism) records for the children listed above.I'm thinking they were RC.
I found a 1911 census that had a Patrick Dalton b 1885 Kilkenny married to a Lizzie (? Elizabeth Walsh) i Callan & there's a sister Mary Ann Dalton b.1891 with him living in Patrick Street Upper, Kilkenny but I can't say for certain these are 2 of the children.
I would be most appreciative of any information, dates or areas where I can trace this Dalton family cos I;m really stuck.
Thanking you,
Marj (in Oz)
