Cummins/Quinlan brick wall

I'm revisitting my brick wall after several years and seeing if anyone has some suggestions...  It concerns my G-Grandfather.

Walter/William Cummins b.26 Jun 1865 (Ireland)   d.11 May 1925 (Ft. Edward, NY, USA)

I'd specifically like to find his place of birth and more about his parentage.  Found from British Naval records, his marriage certificate (m. Helena Williams 18 Dec 1890, Harwich, England), and his death certificate, I've kind of pieced together a timeline...

Born in Ireland (US Census and British Naval Enlistment record).  Listed as William Cummins AND as Walter Cummins.  His father is listed as both William Cummins (Marraige cert), and Patrick Cummings (death cert).  Mother is only listed on the death cert as Bridget Quinlan.

So, Walter/William was born in Ireland, enlisted in the British Navy, was married while in the service, went AWOL when his ship was in Halifax and escaped across the Canadian/US border and met up with his wife and her extended family in the Corinth/Ft Edward area of upstate New York

Hello,

First port of call would be Irish state records? See if he was born after 1863 (though some earlier marriages are on there). I ti slikely he signed up young - same as marriage usually!

This would give a likely area he was from and more importantly his father's and mother's names.

Thanks Shay!  I did visit this a while back with no luck, but revisited it this weekend, and found my match!  Well, he was reported to the state prior to being named.  Just through genetic matches, I had a good feeling about Tipperary as the general area, and low and behold, it was a tiny township within Tipperary that was listed in the civil records as the place of birth.  Thank you for the help!!  Now...no traces of his parents prior to the birth....  Ugh...  Haha, thanks once again!!!

Cheers, Matt
