Crowley clan.

My grandfather Dennis J. Crowley was born in August, 1861 or 1862 in County Cork. He emigrated to the US in 1880-1882, married Catherine Murphy (born June 1862-1865 in Dublin) on April 5, 1885 in St. Patrick’s cathedral Harrisburg, PA. They lived the 57years married in Steelton, Pa. And raised many children including Mary, Thomas, Catherine, James, Lawrence, Margaret, Richard, Daniel and my father Joseph.

There is much contradictory information t from US Census records to death certificates which makes verifying exact dates impossible. We don’t know whether they emigrated at the same time or into which port they arrived.

We are making our first visit Tom Ireland in July and would love to know more about their journies and the families left behind. Thank you.

Based on the 1900 census information, it appears they emigrated separately in 1880 (Denis) and 1882 (Catherine). As you indicated, there are conflicting data on Ancestry regarding the family. The death record for Denis shows his father was Patrick but I find it curious that none of his sons were named Patrick. I also searched in two data bases which have Co. Cork baptismal records and could not find a Denis Crowley with father Patrick and mother Elizabeth O'Bryan/O'Brien.

I will continue looking and I'm sure other volunteers will try to assist.

Catherine's death record from Ancestry. I checked Ancestry and RootsIreland, both paid subscriptions, for her birth/ baptismal record but didn't find one. I also checked Irishgenealogy (free) and didn't find a baptismal record. You might have better luck- search baptisms in Dublin.

They did not start registering civil births until 1864. I checked civil births for Catherine's from1864 to 1866 in Dublin on Irishgenealogy and did not find her. The civil records from 1860 to 1863 do not exist.

The best lead I have for Denis Crowley is a record in Innishannon RC parish in Co. Cork, father Patrick Crowley and mother Julia Brien. The date was July 6 1863 which means he would have emigrated at age 17 and made himself older when he arrived in America.
