Crough / Crowe

I am looking for any birth or batismal records for my GG-Grandfather Jeremiah J Crough (1838-1896) and his parents and family. I believe he is the son of Patrick Crowe (1815-1882) and Mary Ellen Hanley (1820) . He was born 1 July 1838 in Breansha, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland.

He is the brother of Bridget "Sister Mary Albert (1839), Margaret (1840), Ann (Mahar) (1841), Michael H (1842-1908), Thomas (1844), Johanna A (Fogarty) (1846), Daniel (1848-1914), Cornelius (1853), Ellen C (Quinlan), Joseph (1854), Timothy (1856-1939), Andrew (1857) and Theodora Crowe

He moved to the United States by 1854 and settled in Troy, Rensselaer, New York. He married Mary Quillinan (1842-1911) on 26 September 1854 at St. Joseph's Church. They had 14 children together:Patrick J (1865-1907), Helen "Nellie" (1867-1868), Mary Elizabeth (1869-1943), Helen C (Connors Tracey) (1870-1923), Josephine A (1872-1938), Hanora T "Nora (Purcell) (1874-1950), Jeremiah "Jerry" Jr (1876-1931), Timothy (1876-1876), Timothy Edward (1878-1882), Margaret Ann "Maggie" (1880-1883), Daniel Dennis (1881-1933), Margaret Ann "Annie" (1883-1885), Theresa (1885-1886) and William "Willie" (1886-1887).

He is buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.

I checked the Roots Ireland indexes and located the 1838 baptismal record for Jeremiah. The parents were Patrick and Ellen. Through 1853 there were ten other baptismal records for that couple so possibly some children died young.

Civil birth records did not begin until 1864.

Roots is a subscription site. Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching.

As an aside, the Roots records for your family are listed within Co. Limerick since the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly records are not available within Co. Tipperary but since Emly parish borders Co. Limerick, they are included with the Limerick records.

I also looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation records for Emly and there is a Patrick Croagh listed which is likely the father. He was living in the townland of Breansha.
